The Mumbrella Publish Awards highlight the best work in consumer, business and custom media. Now in its 22nd year, the program is considered the number one accolade for success in Australian media.
Recognised as Launch/Relaunch of the Year – Large Publisher, Defence Connect pipped major media brands including 9news.com.au for the prestigious award.

Relaunched in 2017 following its acquisition by multi award-winning media company Momentum Media, Defence Connect has experienced rapid growth based on its innovative approach to delivering market intelligence and insights for Australia’s defence sector, with the media platform now attracting over 120,000 visits every month.

According to Phillip Tarrant, director of Defence Connect, the timing of the relaunch ideally aligned with a resurgent industry poised for a period of rapid growth and evolution.

“With over $200 billion earmarked for defence capability building over the coming decade, Defence Connect has a critical role to keep the defence industry better informed and engaged to support defence expansion,” he said.

“The brand has quickly gained traction with the defence sector, and will maintain its focus on delivering essential insights to help shape and support its ongoing growth.”

In securing the major accolade of Business Website of the Year, Tarrant said the award reflected the depth of the Defence Connect brand and its talented team of media professionals.

It also highlighted the growing importance of the defence industry to the Australian economy and helping the nation transition into a manufacturing powerhouse to support major defence programs, he said.

“Australia is poised to undertake a major capability step change with the introduction of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, plus a naval building program including a new surface fleet and submarines,” Tarrant said.

“The opportunities for Australian business is significant, and as the nation beefs up its ability to support sovereign industrial capabilities plus enhanced defence technology, companies across Australia will benefit.”

Tarrant believes up-to-the minute market intelligence, news, insights and thought leadership to generate debate via Defence Connect will be critical to supporting this expansion, as well as help businesses benefit on the key focus on building Australia’s defence export potential.

“To receive these key accolades reaffirms the rationale for Defence Connect and the important role it can play in shaping Australia’s defence sector in the years ahead,” he said.

“We’re proud to be awarded for Defence Connect and it’s great to join Defence and the defence industry on this journey to help support the sector and a better equipped Australian Defence Force.”
