Momentum Media’s legal brand, Lawyers Weekly, recently hosted its first-ever summit for law firm partners.
On Thursday, 20 June, Lawyers Weekly hosted its inaugural Partner Summit: a gathering of law firm partners, in practices big and small, to reflect on the headline challenges, trends and opportunities facing such leaders in professional services ahead of the new financial year.
The event’s agenda was jam-packed with practical, thought-provoking insights, from UK-based Professor Richard Susskind OBE KC’s virtual discussion of future trends in the legal profession and how firm partners will be impacted in the coming years, through to Penrith Panthers head coach Nathan Cleary’s fascinating insights into what it takes to foster a collegiate team environment and ultimately achieve long-term success, and Yellow Brick Road chairman – Australia’s best business coach – on building disruptive models to achieve business objectives.
The first-ever Partner Summit also featured numerous panel discussions, covering topics such as: making firms more efficient and improving client experiences, winning work from new clients, what partners need to know about AI, and how to address leaders’ burnout and overcome generational differences in the workplace.
The summit – which saw over 140 firm partners from across the country in attendance – served as a complement for Lawyers Weekly’s annual Partner of the Year Awards, which was held later that night.
This year’s Partner of the Year Awards was the ninth annual instalment.
Reflecting on the event, Julia Banks – the former MP, experienced corporate and board director, non-executive director, and general counsel – said that, from her vantage point as the event’s MC, and moderator of multiple panel sessions, the audience was “thoroughly engaged and interested, from start to finish”.
“It was clear that a superbly-curated agenda, and deeply interesting topics, enabled so many insights and views to be shared,” Banks said.
“Based on the feedback and conversation during the breaks from the conference attendees – it was clear – the summit was undoubtedly a success.”
Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy added: “It was our privilege to host this inaugural, annual summit for law firm partners of all stripes.”
“Partners face extraordinary personal, professional and leadership challenges in the current climate, and identifying the headline issues to be addressed and finding ways to overcome those is essential, no matter what practice area one is in,” he said.
“As the most-trusted brand among Australia’s legal cohort, we look forward to continuing to provide instructive, illuminating guidance to law firm partners and partners-equivalent for years to come.”
