An award-winning mortgage broker has attributed part of his success to working closely with real estate agents.
LJ Hooker Home Loans Eastern Suburbs leading specialist Alex Lambros took out the Residential Mortgage Broker of the Year title at the recent Real Estate Business Awards, which was run by The Adviser’s sister publication, Real Estate Business.
Mr Lambros said the accomplishment came as a result of hard work and dedication to the LJ Hooker Home Loans franchise.
“First is personal drive; second is having a great team around me for support; and third is focusing more so on our network than on myself,” he told The Adviser.
Part of his network includes real estate agents, which he noted has significantly benefitted his business.
Mr Lambros noted that any broker can build good referral relationships with agents, so long as they play their cards right.
“I think what a real estate agent probably wants is the stability of knowing that their client is going to be handled well and that they’re going to get a quick yes or no,” he said.
“Real estate agents don’t get out of bed to give a broker leads. It’s not about that, and nine times out of 10 you’ll have the door shut in your face.
“What you need to do is work with them in a win-win environment. If you can do that successfully, then everything will move in the right direction for you.”
Looking ahead, Mr Lambros hopes to recruit more brokers to the LJ Hooker Home Loans brand. His eastern suburbs office currently employs 13 mortgage brokers.
