Momentum Media and law brand Lawyers Weekly — along with principal partner Commonwealth Bank of Australia — are thrilled to announce the 35 winners of this year’s Partner of the Year Awards.
The 2023 Partner of the Year Awards black-tie gala ceremony was held on Thursday, 20 July 2023 at The Star in Sydney.
A total of 35 winners were chosen this year out of a record high of 283 finalists and 464 submissions.
Winners included partners from Gilbert + Tobin, Ashurst, Maddocks, Hall & Willcox, Clayton Utz, and Corrs Chambers Westgarth, as well as numerous boutique practices across the country.
All eyes were on who would receive the prestigious Partner of the Year Excellence Award, given to the highest-scoring individual winner.
This year, that trophy went to Jason Betts, partner, global co-head of class actions at Herbert Smith Freehills in Sydney.
Mr Betts was named Class Actions Partner of the Year earlier in the evening.
Over 660 members of the legal profession attended the 2023 Partner of the Year Awards to cheer their peers, network with industry leaders, and let their hair down and celebrate their achievements.
Australian comedian, satirist, and writer Mark Humphries assumed emcee duties and entertained the crowd throughout the evening.
Speaking post-awards, Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy said: “The calibre of winners named this year speaks to the extraordinary capacities and skill sets of senior leaders right across the legal profession in Australia.
“The market continues to experience uncertainty and volatility, but partners and partners-equivalent continue to serve the community with aplomb, demonstrating exceptional leadership at a time that it is needed most.
“On behalf of Lawyers Weekly, I congratulate all of tonight’s finalists and winners.”
