Momentum Media and defence brand Defence Connect are thrilled to reveal the 29 winners of the fourth annual Australian Defence Industry Awards, including the first-ever AIC Champion of the Year.
The 2022 Australian Defence Industry Awards were held on Thursday, 15 September at the National Convention Centre Canberra, run with support from principal partner KBR.
The awards celebrated the best and brightest in Australia’s defence industry whose hard work and dedication have strengthened the defence ecosystem.
A total of 29 individual and group winners were chosen from a pool of 248 finalists, while the highest-scoring individual category winner took home the prestigious Excellence Award trophy.
Systems engineer at Nova Systems, Sue Scott, was conferred the Excellence Award this year after she won the Engineer and Technician of the Year award earlier in the evening.
Other big winners included BAE Systems Australia (which picked up an award in both an individual and group category) and Electro Optic Systems, which was named the inaugural winner of the newly-launched AIC Champion of the Year award.
Over 900 members of the defence industry attended the gala ceremony and let their hair down, networked with other professionals, and cheered for their peers.
There was light and laughter throughout the evening as Australian stand-up comedian and television and radio presenter Dave Thornton provided the entertainment.
The Australian Defence Industry Awards have become a coveted accolade for organisations and professionals seeking to cement their role in the defence industry.
They are designed to showcase the depth of talent in the nation’s defence industry while affirming the sector’s essential role in supporting the nation as it embarks on a period of rapid transformation by embracing defence technology and capability building.
The awards champion all defence industry stakeholders supporting the defence supply chain including primes, small-to-medium enterprises (SME), academic institutions, and associations, along with high-performing individuals such as defence executives, female defence leaders, scientists, technicians, academics, as well as rising stars.
“It was an absolute pleasure to celebrate with all of our finalists tonight and to recognise the best and brightest minds in the Australian defence industry,” Liam Garman, editor - defence and security at Momentum Media said.
“Tonight we applaud all those who work tirelessly to keep our soldiers, sailors, and aviators safe with world-leading technology, and acknowledge those who make defence industry Australia’s most innovative sector.”
