The 11th annual Women in Law Awards were held on Thursday, 24 November 2022 at Grand Hyatt Melbourne, with over 700 people in attendance.
A total of 31 winners were chosen out of a pool of more than 280 finalists to take home the awards across 28 individual and three group categories.
The highest-scoring individual winner received the coveted Women in Law Excellence Award.
This year, the Excellence Award was given to Maddocks’ partner Sonia Sharma, who was also named Partner of the Year – BigLaw earlier in the evening.
TV presenter, columnist, and founder of ShellShocked Media, Shelly Horton was the MC at this year’s awards, providing light and laughter throughout the evening as members of the legal profession let their hair down, networked with their peers, and celebrated the successes of their colleagues in the industry.
Women in Law Awards is an unparalleled awards program that recognises and rewards the top female professionals in law across Australia.
The national awards program presents an opportunity for leading women in the legal profession to showcase their achievements, attract more clients, and propel their career.
This year’s black-tie gala awards ceremony celebrated the best and brightest in the business of law while highlighting the women working within the profession, including executives, partners, barristers, academics, pro bono, students, mentors, in-house lawyers, the rising stars of tomorrow, and many more.
Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy offered congratulations to all of the winners on behalf of the brand.
“This awards program is the biggest and best celebration of Australia’s female legal practitioners – to take home an accolade on this night puts one in the upper echelons of the profession,” he said.
“Those who were named as finalists should also be hugely proud of their achievements. From students and grads to GCs and managing partners, women across the board are inspiring the entire profession with their extraordinary work.
“Lawyers Weekly eagerly anticipates next year’s Women in Law Forum and Awards,” he added.
