Momentum Media’s law brand Lawyers Weekly, and principal partner LOD + Consilio, recognised more than 30 winners at this year’s Corporate Counsel Awards.
The Corporate Counsel Awards program celebrates in-house counsel; in particular it recognises those influencing the profession, and propelling the industry forward.
The 2024 Corporate Counsel Awards were held on Thursday (2 May) at The Star in Sydney, where almost 500 members of the legal profession were in attendance to celebrate the achievements of their in-house colleagues.
A total of 33 winners were chosen at the ceremony out of 158 finalists, across 19 individual and 13 group award categories, while the highest-scoring individual winner received the prestigious Excellence Award.
This year, the Excellence Award was given to Cancer Council NSW general counsel and company secretary Elisabeth Flett, after she won the Not-For-Profit Lawyer of the Year award earlier in the evening.

Australian comedian and satirist Mark Humphries assumed emcee duties at the awards ceremony and provided entertainment and laughter throughout the evening.
The Corporate Counsel Awards is an unparalleled program that offers national recognition to the top-performing in-house legal professionals across Australia.
Now in its eighth year, the program has become the benchmark for excellence for corporate counsel, and the annual awards is open to all eligible professionals and businesses operating across Australia who have been influencing the profession and propelling the industry forward.
The awards were judged by a highly-regarded panel of professionals and provided peer-reviewed recognition of the capabilities of the winners and their passion for achieving outstanding outcomes for their clients and organisations.
They shone the spotlight on lawyers in agribusiness, construction and real estate, defence, security and/or cyber lawyers, legal operations professionals, as well as technology lawyers, and transport and logistics lawyers.
Legal teams were also championed in financial services, government, sports and entertainment, technology, media, and communications, and travel, tourism, and hospitality.
Lawyers Weekly editor Jerome Doraisamy congratulated all the finalists and winners in his address at the awards ceremony.
“Being adaptable in such ways remains as critical as ever, in the face of myriad regulatory change, broadening cyber security data privacy threats, voluminous technology adoption and integration challenges, expansive geopolitical risks, and increasing competition for talent retention and development,” he told the awards’ attendees.
“Responding to what’s happening in the market and drawing lessons from the experiences of others cannot be a law department’s MO moving forward – proactivity is the name of the game.
“Looking at the calibre of finalists and winners we have here at this event, it is clear this imperative has not been lost on Australia’s in-house cohort. Our nation’s businesses and organisations, of all stripes, shapes, and sizes, are better off because of the forward-looking, creative, and transformational approaches being utilised by in-house teams, and significantly, by their leaders,” Doraisamy declared.
